Project description
A renovation that transforms: natural light, health, and accessibility in a house between party walls.
This house, located on a long and narrow plot between party walls, had significant deficiencies in terms of lighting, ventilation, structural health, and accessibility. The comprehensive renovation that was carried out focused on solving these problems, transforming the house into a bright, healthy, and functional home, with a strong commitment to sustainability.
Light as the protagonist:
The key architectural solution was to pierce the roof plane, creating skylights that bring natural light into the interior and allow the space under the roof to be inhabited. In this way, the house is filled with light and the living space is expanded, while the need for artificial lighting is reduced.
Recovering the essence:
Superfluous coatings were removed, giving value to the original elements that were worth preserving: the vaulted ceilings, the handcrafted concrete walls of the party walls, and the terracotta tile floors. This combination of old and contemporary elements creates a unique and character-filled atmosphere, reflecting a conscious interior design that respects the history of the building.
Simple materials, great results:
Simple and economical materials were chosen, prioritizing investment in design, energy efficiency, and construction quality. The result is a comfortable and sustainable home that meets the needs of its inhabitants. A palette of materials is configured with exposed concrete, glass, and the exposed metal of the structure, contrasting with the remains of the old house in small glimpses or windows to the past.
A healthy and sustainable home:
The renovation addressed the ventilation and humidity deficiencies that affected the health of the house. A dual-flow ventilation system with filtration was installed to ensure the circulation of fresh air and minimize energy losses. To solve the humidity problems, an interior patio was created that provides light and ventilation to all rooms, and a properly sealed and drained floor was installed.
Renewed structure:
The structural problems of the house were solved, simplifying its shape and correcting construction deficiencies. The house gained in solidity and stability, guaranteeing the safety of its inhabitants.
Accessibility for all:
The accessibility of the house was improved by concentrating the steps in strategic points and leaving the main areas on a single level. In this way, the house adapts to the needs of all its users.
In summary, this comprehensive renovation transformed a dark, damp, and inaccessible house into a bright, healthy, and comfortable home with a sustainable approach. The combination of innovative architectural solutions, carefully selected materials, and a focus on energy efficiency results in a home that adapts to the needs of modern life and respects the environment.
